Active Thanksgiving Games the Whole Family Will Love

While many people think of Thanksgiving simply as a time to eat and watch T.V., there are plenty of opportunities to get active with your family and friends. This year, instead of just sitting around after your feast, why not get up and move your body with some fun games the whole family can enjoy? From Turkey Hunts to becoming a superhero with the Fit Heroes Game, there are plenty of ways to give your family an extra dose of fun this Thanksgiving. Read on for some of our favorites.

1. Turkey Hunt

A turkey hunt is a perfect way to entertain the kids and leave the entire family smiling! Hide printable turkeys around your backyard, and have the kids collect them in baskets. Once they have collected the paper turkeys, they can be redeemed for some sort of prize or treat!

2. Cranberry Relay

This game is perfect for kids and adults alike. For this activity, you’ll need a bag of raw cranberries, two large spoons, and two containers (one for each team). Split into two teams. Two people will race at a time and must run from point A to point B carrying a spoonful of raw cranberries to dump into their container. The team with the most cranberries transferred wins. If you have only a few players, you can have players go more than once.

3. Fit Heroes Game

The Fit Heroes card game is our personal favorite! This award-winning card game is the perfect way to get everyone laughing, moving their bodies, and feeling good! And, the best part is that the game can be played indoors or outdoors!

4. Potato Sack Race

This classic game is always a hit, especially with kids. All you need for this race are some potato sacks (or pillowcases will work in a pinch) and some willing participants. Line up the participants at the start line and have them put their feet in the sack. On your mark, get set, go! The first person to cross the finish line without falling out of their sack wins!

5. Flag Football

What better way to work off that big meal than by playing a game of good old-fashioned flag football? This Turkey Day classic is a great way to get everyone in the family moving.

6. Post-Meal Walk

After all that eating, it's important to get your digestive system moving. A short post-meal walk or jog is a great way to do just that. Not only will it help you burn off a few of those extra calories, but it'll also give you some time to chat with your relatives and catch up on all the latest news. Plus, fresh air always feels good after being cooped up indoors all day. Just be sure to bundle up if the temperature outside is chilly!

Thanksgiving is a time to gather with family and friends, give thanks, and enjoy some delicious food. But it doesn’t have to be a sedentary holiday! With these active game ideas, you can enjoy the day even more and make wonderful memories. So get up and get moving this Thanksgiving! Your whole family will thank you for it later.
